Are you experiencing a toothache?

Posted on May 15, 2013

Each and every day, we have several patients come in with anywhere from mild to severe toothache pain.  Nationally each year about 5 million people visit their dentist with a toothache.  Crystal Coast Dentistry urges you, if you feel or suspect the first pangs of a toothache, to go ahead and schedule an appointment with your dentist.  (Crystal Coast Dentistry is open Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, and extended hours on Tuesday & Thursday).  You certainly do not want to take the chance on waiting to “see what happens”.  Experience tells us, most toothaches eventually grow in intensity.  Your dentist can help alleviate your discomfort by determining the cause and applying any appropriate treatment. There are many different causes of a toothache.  Some of the most common causes are:

·         Tooth Decay
·         Tooth Root Sensitivity
·         Tooth Abscess
·         Gum Disease
·         Cracked Tooth
·         Jaw Disease (TMJ)

If you have a toothache, there are some measures you can take to help alleviate the pain until you can get to your dentist appointment.  You can apply a cold compress to the area of the cheek where the toothache is.  You may also rinse your mouth with warm salt water.  Your recommended dosage of aspirin or ibuprofen may also soothe some of your discomfort.  Whatever you do, make sure to schedule an appointment with your dentist.
